DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Typical web design throughout the nineties was “Web Master” based. These websites were largely HTML coded and as such, the development was beyond the technical skill of the layperson. This means that a third party entity, the Web Master, was required to design and develop a website for the organization or business in question. Content updates were typically handled by the Web Master who was paid on monthly retainer.
As the interactivity of the world wide web increased, more and more daily attention was needed to properly operate the website. Working in HTML can be time consuming and the more attention needed to run a website meant that the typical Web Master topped out at the amount of websites he or she could manage (often in the 35 - 40 range) with out a drastic loss in quality of service.
In comparison, a contractor builds the facility that a business or organization occupies to operate. It would be ludicrous to expect the construction crew to run the business after the building was completed. The contractor is not schooled, skilled or equipped to handle the day to day operations of the end-user business. They should only be called back if the roof leaks or an addition to the structure is needed.
The individual Development Team members have long recognized this problem and in the last year have begun assembling as a team to design websites based on a Owner/Operator centric philosophy.
DESIGN JUSTIFICATION:
The Development Team intends to distinguish our services from the typical “Web Master” based development, it typically will not design additions or repairs to previously developed sites. The inherited design flaws that often come with that type of project detract from the end product and become difficult to setup for owner/operator control.
Our “ground up” approach with CMS based Websites allow the website owner/operator access and control of the day to day content operation without needing to rely on third party programs (such as Contribute or Front Page) or needing constant attention from an outside Web Master.
Coupling a CMS with a database system gives the owner/operator even more powerful tools for business or organizational management. To achieve the desired environment for the sites we typically prefer to setup the websites on hosting services we have previously vetted or control directly. |
